Galaxy DIY - Shoes and T-shirts
My gorgeous nieces came to stay with me over the school holidays. Usually when they come we go out on some sort of adventure but this time we decided to have a DIY day. So after lots of pintrest browsing we picked galaxy shoes and t-shirts. This was a great project for their ages (9 and 11). They (and me!) really enjoyed it and could do it however they wanted and the finished product looked great!
We didn't follow a specific tutorial but instead looked at a few and improvised from there. but Follow this link for a good tutorial.
Supplies:
Canvas shoes
Acrylic paints - we used navy blue, blue, pink, purple, white, silver and gold
Sponges
Small paint brush
Masking tape
The basics:
Mask off the sole, take out the laces and sponge on the paint. Start with the navy blue then play around with your colours. We sponged on the gold and silver last and then used a small paint brush to dot stars and make little twinkles.
After finishing our shoes we moved on to t-shirts! We masked off shapes using making tape and then used the same technique as for the shoes, wait for them to dry, take of the tape, iron and that's it!

Upside Down Planter Tutorial
I'm Loving house plants at the moment, so decided to try making a upside down hanging plant!
You will need:
-A pretty vase or plant pot
-A pretty plant, I choice a spider plant
-old sponge
-low gauge wire, thin enough to bend with your hands
-A planter bag that is the same size as your vase/pot
-Wire cutters
-Scissors
First of your need to cut a slip in
the base of your planter bag, its very important that the slit is only
big enough to get your plant through, otherwise your plants going to
fall out! Do the same with the sponge.
Now
you need to pop the sponge inside the planter bag to line the base. The
sponge will help to catch and store water for you plant and stop drips.
Make sure the cut in the sponge and the cut in the bag are going in
different directions, this will need to keep everything in side.
Carefully take you plant out of its pot and shake off as much potting mix as you can.
Now here's the tricky part.. take the plant and bring all the foliage together (think tying up a pony tail) and gently thread it through the hole. (Depending on the plant you may want to thread it through the sponge first, then the planter bag.)
Fill up the planter bag with the potting mix that you shook off. Now get your wire and cut about a meter off, start winding the wire around the bag making a ball shape. Make a ring with the wire, fold the planter bag over it and use another length of wire to sew the bag and ring together. The extra wire will be threaded through the hole (or holes depending on the type of pot).
Take your pot and you plant and thread the wire gently through the hole and pull up as much as possible. Twist off of the wire and make it in to a hoop to hang you planter off.
Done!

” Richard Henry one of the founding fathers of the new Zealand Kakapo colony, his namesake Richard treacy Henry was a pioneer conservationist and kakapo expert during the mid 19th Century. Richard is credited with developing the world’s first offshore wildlife reserve at Resolution Island in the Milford sound. He translocated hundreds of Kakapo in the hopes that the island would provide protection from predators, but by 1900 stoats reached the island. His efforts were not in vain, as offshore islands now successfully provide the only sanctuary for many endangered New Zealand species. Richard Henry the bird died earlier this year. “

” Albert Fantail has signed up for the first world war, and is off on a great adventure. He leaves behind his parents and many siblings. Yet for all of the challenges and dangers he faces ahead of him, none are as terrifying and damaging as the likelihood of his family nest being predated by rats while he is away. “
