Upside Down Planter Tutorial

I'm Loving house plants at the moment, so decided to try making a upside down hanging plant!

You will need:
-A pretty vase or plant pot
-A pretty plant, I choice a spider plant
-old sponge
-low gauge wire, thin enough to bend with your hands
-A planter bag that is the same size as your vase/pot
-Wire cutters
-Scissors

First of your need to cut a slip in the base of your planter bag, its very important that the slit is only big enough to get your plant through, otherwise your plants going to fall out!  Do the same with the sponge.
Now you need to pop the sponge inside the planter bag to line the base. The sponge will help to catch and store water for you plant and stop drips. Make sure the cut in the sponge and the cut in the bag are going in different directions, this will need to keep everything in side.

Carefully take you plant out of its pot and shake off as much potting mix as you can.

Now here's the tricky part.. take the plant and bring all the foliage together (think tying up a pony tail) and gently thread it through the hole. (Depending on the plant you may want to thread it through the sponge first, then the planter bag.)

Fill up the planter bag with the potting mix that you shook off. Now get your wire and cut about a meter off,  start winding the wire around the bag making a ball shape. Make a ring with the wire, fold the planter bag over it and use another length of wire to sew the bag and ring together. The extra wire will be threaded through the hole (or holes depending on the type of pot).

Take your pot and you plant and thread the wire gently through the hole and pull up as much as possible.  Twist off of the wire and make it in to a hoop to hang you planter off.

Done!
